National cancer day is observed on 7th November of every year. In view of it a dental team consisting of faculties, postgraduates and interns from the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Department of Public Health Dentistry and Department of Oral pathology and Microbiology conducted a free oral cancer screening and awareness camp for drivers of Vellalar Educational Institutions at Thindal, Erode on 26.11.2021. A total of 74 drivers were screened for the presence of oral cancer, precancerous lesions and conditions. Tobacco cessation counselling and free nicotine chewing gums were given to tobacco users as a part of the program and those who were diagnosed with precancerous lesions and conditions were referred to KSR Institute of Dental Science and Research for further management. Health education was given to create awareness about the ill-effects of tobacco and the importance
of maintaining good oral hygiene.
