Dr. Sharath Asokan, MDS, PhD

Dr. Sharath Asokan is a Professor in the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, KSR institute of Dental Science and Research, Tiruchengode. He was the youngest and the third Pediatric Dentist from India to have completed his doctorate (PhD on Oil Pulling Therapy) in 2010. He was awarded the “Young Pedodontist Research Award” for the year 2008 by the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) and the “Health Excellence Award” for the year 2009 awarded by Indian Board of Alternative Medicines (IBAM). He received the “Young Dentist Award” from The Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University, His Excellency, The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Dr. K.Rosaiah in the Dentist Day Celebrations in 2012. He was also awarded the “Star Pedodontist Award” for the year 2022 and “Fellow ISPPD Award” for the year 2025 by ISPPD. Dr.Sharath won the “Sam Harris Travel Bursary Award” in the 29th International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) Congress in Maastricht, The Netherlands in June 2023 and Best Research Award in the 30th IAPD Congress, Cape Town, South Africa in October 2025.

Dr.Sharath Asokan attended the Summer Institute on Dental Clinical Research Methods in the University of Washington, Seattle, USA in 2008. He has written and edited chapters for three most sought after Indian textbooks in Pediatric Dentistry. He has delivered over 160 guest lectures across the sub-continent and has 120 publications in peer-reviewed indexed journals to his credit. He is currently the Chairman of the Postgraduate Board of Studies, The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University, India (2025 – 2028). He is an external PhD Guide for many Universities including Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai and the Lincoln University College, Malaysia. He was instrumental in his college holding the ‘India Book of Records Award’ and ‘Asia Book of Records Award’ for filing 17 patents -“Maximum Oral Health Care Related Patents Filed by a Dental College in a Single Day in India”.

Dr.Sharath Asokan was an Executive Committee Member of ISPPD from 2014-2016 and the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (JISPPD) from 2016-2021. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of JISPPD, Executive Committee Member of SAAPD and Member of the Education Committee of IAPD.
