Teaching and learning have been given prime importance in this department. Undergraduate (UG) students come in direct contact with the child patients under the supervision of faculty, giving them hands-on clinical experience and a good insight on how to manage them efficiently in the clinics. A diverse spectrum of treatments ranging from infant oral healthcare, diet counselling, habit interception, preventive and interceptive orthodontics, surgical and non-surgical pediatric endodontics, exodontia and caries preventive strategies are routinely practiced in the department. In addition to these modalities, painless anaesthesia systems, conscious sedation, single sitting endodontics, use of LASER and full mouth rehabilitation under general anesthesia are also an integral part of intensive postgraduate training. Post graduate program commenced in the year 2011 and till date, 4 of our postgraduate students have topped and secured the gold medal in The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR University MDS exams.
Team Pedo focuses not just on clinical patient care, but also on research. It boasts to be the only department in the college with two of its team members awarded with a PhD degree. Future plans include inter-departmental, inter-disciplinary and international collaboration for research and exchange programmes for students and faculty members.
