Dental screening camp conducted for special children with intellectual disability!

On the occasion of National Toothbrushing Day, the Department of Public Health Dentistry conducted a free dental screening camp for special children with intellectual disability at Kongu Arivalayam, Sengodampalayam, Erode on 17th November 2023 to create awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral health and tooth brushing techniques recommended by ADA. A team comprising of Dr.Prakash, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Dr.Selvamani, Senior lecturer and 9 interns participated in the camp. Oral screening was done for 30 special children and 4 care takers. Then a demonstration of tooth brushing technique was done with typodont model by interns and staffs to the children and care takers over there. Instructions to brush their teeth twice daily for 2 mins and how to maintain their oral health and hygiene were also given. In addition, free toothbrush and toothpaste was provided to all the participants. Overall, the program turned out to be successful in imparting the importance of oral health and proper method of toothbrushing among special children.
